Beyond the cure

Help kids with cancer in Lebanon get the treatment they deserve

Join Samia and Chloe in supporting the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL).

This fundraising was brought to our attention by Samia and Chloe.

Through this effort, they hope to support children and families affected by cancer in Lebanon while strengthening connections between Lebanese communities around the world.

Why This Cause Matters

Samia Khaled and Chloe Christman are rising seniors at Hathaway Brown School in Ohio and proud Lebanese-Americans with a passion for science, service, and supporting their community. Growing up with strong ties to Lebanon through their families, culture, and heritage, they have always felt deeply connected to the country and its people. Cancer has touched both of their families, giving them a firsthand understanding of the emotional, physical, and financial challenges that accompany a cancer diagnosis. As they learned more about the difficulties many families in Lebanon face while navigating cancer treatment amid ongoing economic and healthcare challenges, they felt compelled to take action. Both students are actively involved in scientific research. Samia conducts neurodegenerative disease research at Case Western Reserve University, studying diseases that affect the brain and nervous system, while Chloe conducts food safety research at Cleveland State University, where she investigates ways to improve public health and reduce foodborne illness. Through these experiences, they have developed a deep appreciation for the resilience of patients and families confronting serious illnesses and for the importance of support beyond medical care alone. They are grateful for the opportunity to give back to a country that has played such an important role in their families’ lives.

Who Your Donation Supports

The Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL) has provided free pediatric cancer treatment in Beirut since 2002, regardless of a family’s nationality or ability to pay.

Affiliated with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the American University of Beirut Medical Center, CCCL has grown into a regional leader in pediatric cancer care, achieving cure rates above 80% and treating more than 5,000 children to date.

Despite Lebanon’s ongoing economic crisis, CCCL has never turned a child away. The center depends entirely on donations to keep that promise, and treating a single child can cost tens of thousands of dollars over the course of their care.
